Halloween Things to Do Near Denver: A Free-Roam VR Guide for 2026

Halloween things to do near Denver: free-roam VR horror, zombie shooters, spooky puzzle adventures and a free Oct 31 party in Westminster, Colorado.

Halloween Things to Do Near Denver: A Free-Roam VR Guide for 2026

Short answer: for a different kind of Halloween near Denver, step inside the scare. Grid City VR in Westminster, about 15 minutes north of downtown Denver, runs Fright Season through October 31: free-roam virtual reality horror, zombie shooters and spooky puzzle adventures for squads of 2–6, from $36 per player, plus a free Halloween party on Saturday, October 31. Below is what each game is like, who it suits and how to plan the night.

Halloween in virtual reality, explained

Free-roam VR means you are not sitting in a chair with a controller. You wear a wireless headset with real-time full-body tracking and walk a real arena, so when the game asks you to crouch behind cover or back away from a doorway, you actually do it. There are no wires, and your squad sees each other in the game and talks the whole way through. Grid City VR runs the only authorized Zero Latency free-roam arenas in the Denver metro, and that is where the scariest Fright Season games live.

The Fright Season lineup, from spooky to terrifying

Prices are per player, before tax, Monday to Thursday and then Friday to Sunday.

  • Manor of Escape. The gentlest scare: a story-driven VR Adventure through Count Malum's manor, solving dark puzzles as a team. 45 minutes, ages 8+, $42 / $49.
  • Alien Infection. Strange lights in the woods, an abduction onto a flying saucer and a rescue mission for Whiskers the cat. 45 minutes, ages 13+, $42 / $49.
  • Nightmare on the Grid. Grid Rush with a Halloween twist: you pick your scare from our Halloween VR games when you arrive. 30 minutes, 13+ recommended, $36 / $42.
  • Outbreak 2: Mall Mayhem. A zombie mall with mutant hordes and collapsing floors, more comedy than nightmare. 30 minutes, 13+, $42 / $49.
  • Outbreak. True zombie horror: hunt for a cure through a hospital, the rooftops and the sewers. 30 minutes, 13+, $42 / $49.
  • Survive the Night. The only way to play Haunted, our new full-body VR horror game where the house will do anything to get you alone, followed by a round of Undead Arena. About 30 minutes, 13+, $42 / $49 for both games.
  • Outbreak Double Exposure. Outbreak and Outbreak 2 back to back, our most intense combo. About 60 minutes, 13+, $76 / $88 for both games.

A haunted house alternative that works in any weather

Haunted houses, corn mazes and pumpkin patches are Colorado Halloween classics. VR is a different kind of scare. Instead of walking past actors in a line, your group is inside the story, and the game reacts to every step you take. You book a time slot and play indoors, whatever the October weather is doing. Sessions run 30 to 60 minutes, which leaves room for dinner, trick-or-treating or a costume party after.

Halloween ideas by group

  • Halloween date night. Two players is enough for every game. Try Survive the Night for a real jolt, then a drink from our 12 self-serve taps (21+ with ID).
  • Friends and roommates. Squads of up to six play together. Outbreak Double Exposure is the pick for a group that wants a full hour of zombies.
  • Families with kids. Manor of Escape is 8+ and spooky without tipping into nightmare fuel, and regular Grid Rush is our most family-friendly format.
  • Teen groups and birthdays. The Zero Latency games are 13+, and players under 18 need a parent or guardian to sign the waiver. Planning a whole party? See birthday parties and kids and teen parties.
  • Coworkers. A Halloween group activity that beats another happy hour. For bigger groups, see groups and events.

Quick answers

What are good Halloween things to do near Denver for adults?
If you want to be inside the scare rather than watching it, try free-roam VR horror. At Grid City VR in Westminster, Survive the Night and Outbreak Double Exposure are the most intense picks, and the Halloween party on October 31 is free.

Is VR scary enough to replace a haunted house?
For many groups, yes. Haunted is built to feel scary, not just look scary, and full-body tracking means you physically move through the house. For lighter scares, Manor of Escape and Outbreak 2 are more fun than frightening.

What Halloween activities near Denver work for kids?
Manor of Escape (ages 8+) and regular Grid Rush are the family picks at Grid City VR. The Zero Latency horror games are 13+, and we recommend 13+ for the Halloween games in Nightmare on the Grid.

How much does Halloween VR cost?
From $36 per player for Nightmare on the Grid, Monday to Thursday, up to $88 per player for Outbreak Double Exposure on a weekend, before tax. FRIGHT10 takes 10% off five single games through October 31.

Do I need to book ahead for Halloween weekend?
Booking online is the surest way to get the time you want on a Friday or Saturday in October. Walk-ins are welcome on quieter days.

Is there a Halloween party in Westminster this year?
Yes. Grid City VR's Halloween party starts at noon on Saturday, October 31, with a costume contest, free Grid Rush for the first 31 guests in costume, a Jumanji VR giveaway and a hot cider station. It is free to attend.
